Duckhunters v Oakham 3s

On Sunday 20th June, The Fleckney Duckhunters welcomed Oakham Sunday 3s to the Ian Wallace Cricket Ground.

Oakham batted first and got of to a steady start and got to 80-3 after 20 overs. Captain Scooter (1-17) Archie Brown (1-30) and Frank Smith (1-23) with the wickets.

Ben Brown who last played for Fleckney in 2013 came on to bowl and only conceded 9 runs from his 5 overs and took a great catch on the boundary , Michael Lilley who played on loan from Barkby bowled nicely and got 2-33 from 7 overs. Michael Dunkley (1-39) and opener Ben O’Reilly (0-37) finished things off for the Duckhunters to restrict them to 195-6 from 40 overs.

Special mention goes to the Oakham opener who carried his bat to finish on 97 after his team mates clapped him thinking he had got 100 - well batted.

It then came to the Duckhunters to try and chase it down.

It was a bit of a shaky start when One pad and Archie got out cheaply, to leave us 39-2 off 12 overs.

Dunkley joined opener Andy Holmes at the crease.

They progressed at a steady pace up to the 30th to leave us 129-2. Dunkley then went on the rampage and smashed a few 6s. Andy Holmes started to score quicker too. We got over the line in the 38th over without losing another wicket with Dunkley finishing on 78 and Andy Holmes with a Fleckney best of 83* - we are all wondering when that elusive maiden ton will be achieved...

What a win it was.

Well done to everyone who played on both teams. It was a great game played in a great spirit. It was a pleasure hosting Oakham on Father’s Day and it was great to see so many youngsters playing and playing there heart out.

Good luck for the season Oakham, hope to play you again soon.
