The (Tino) Best of.... with Mike Hextall

Name: Michael Hextall

Who (in your opinion) is the greatest cricketer of all time? And Why?

Jaqcues Kallis. Bit of a surprise I imagine but not only was he a world class Test batsmen averaging over 55 but would also have got into most Test teams as a bowler in his own right.

What is your favourite moment in Cricket - this could be either watching it or playing it and could be at any level of the game, and why is it such a good moment for you?

Scoring my first and only league hundred. We had a depleted team and chasing 205 to win I finished 105 not out and we won by 7 wickets.

Who would be part of your "Cricket Dream 11" - this could be any players from any nation, from any standard of the game. I just need 11 names and why!

  1. Alistair Cook - Scored runs in all conditions and against all types of attacks

  2. Matthew Hayden - A destroyer of bowling attacks

  3. Ricky Ponting - Inspirational leader, fighter and one hell of a batsmen

  4. Brian Lara - What a batsmen, scored runs in the toughest of conditions consistently

  5. Sachin Tendulkar - Finest Test batter of all time?

  6. Jacques Kallis - Gets in my team as a batsmen, could bowl a bit too

  7. Ian Botham - The greatest all rounder the game has seen

  8. Shane Warne - Could change a game in a session on any pitch

  9. Brett Lee - Devastating at his best

  10. Jimmy Anderson - The king of swing, a master of his art, a bowler for any situation

  11. Muttiah Muralitharan - Could spin it on glass and would still be taking wickets if he played now

Let's look closer to home.. Who in your opinion is the best bowler you've seen play for FVCC - doesn't have to be a current player

Good question having only played one interupted season but Jimmy Loomes would take some beating

Let's cover the batter's now. Who is the best batsman you've seen play for FVCC - again this doesn't have to be a current player.

Sam Payne's brutal 140 against a good Barkby attack (that contained Matthew Hoggard) put's him right up there for the time being

Let's finish with a little bit of fun. Who from the international circuit (current or past) do you imagine you most closely resemble in terms of cricket style and why?

Ever since I was young I always considered myself a bit Michael Vaughanesque so will go with that (love a cover drive)
