3 things in life are guaranteed, death, taxes and Fleckney will play against Great Glen - our 4th visit of the season and this felt like one of their stronger batting line ups..
We lost the toss and were put in and at 65-0 after 4 overs things were looking frightening - 2 balls had already been lost into the houses around the ground. Fortunately it's 30 and out so the main protagonists were then back in the shed - Jimmy Loomes eventually getting one caught after juggling with the ball for most of the night and the other retired.
We needed to claw it back and through some final middle over bowling from Jason Nicholson, Scott Roberts and Ben O'Reilly we managed to claw some respectability back and force them to finish on 116 from their 12 overs.
In response, whilst we were never going to chase it down we got fairly close - opener Michael Dunkley got a nice 21 before going leg before and both James Bide-Thoms and Arjun Sudra got starts before falling away - it was left to James Sheath (14*) and Samit Kanji (25*) to bring the innings to a close on a respectable 92/3. Samit moved to 1,000 FVCC runs with his knock in just 70 matches.
As always Glen are a friendly bunch who play the game in the right way. I'm sure we will meet again very soon.
